Inspired artwork wasn’t something that came easily to me when I was younger. As an adult artist, I have the confidence to express myself in my work, and I draw to share my joy and gratitude. I don’t really create anything sad. Maybe one day I will. At this point in my life, however, I have more to explore in what I find silly and absurd about the world around me and the things I love.
Question For Creator: What is one person, place or thing that has had a significant impact on your creative process, artistic taste, or personal life?
Stick n poke artists, I think. I always talk about the catharsis in childish drawing because my background in art is so aggressively traditional. Stick n poke artists play so much more than I ever did. Discovering that emotionally charged, low-effort doodles are a valid form of art, and that I’d find so much to chew in them, was pivotal for me during a time of major upheaval in my personal life. It hugely impacted my current style, and I’m still learning new things about myself and what’s “ok” in art every time I work through a new piece. I still have a lot of knots (fear) to work out.
